Nonperturbative Effect in c=1 Noncritical String Theory and Penner Model
We derive the effect of instantons in the Penner model. It is known that the
free energies of the Penner model and the c=1 noncritical string at self-dual
radius agree in a suitable double scaling limit. On the other hand, the
instanton in the matrix model describes a nonperturbative effect in the
noncritical string theory. We study the correspondence between the instantons
in the Penner model and the nonperturbative effect in c=1 noncritical string at
self-dual radius.Comment: 26 pages, 3 figures; v2: study of multi-instanton effects is adde
Automated Certification for Compliant Cloud-based Business Processes
A key problem in the deployment oflarge-scale, reliable cloud computingconcerns the difficulty to certify thecompliance of business processes operatingin the cloud. Standard auditprocedures such as SAS-70 and SAS-117 are hard to conduct for cloudbasedprocesses. The paper proposesa novel approach to certify the complianceof business processes with regulatoryrequirements. The approach translatesprocess models into their correspondingPetri net representationsand checks them against requirementsalso expressed in this formalism. Beingbased on Petri nets, the approach provideswell-founded evidence on adherenceand, in case of noncompliance, indicatesthe possible vulnerabilities
DEMONSTRATION OF ROAD IMPROVEMENT BY LOCAL INHABITANTS AT THE BAYTSEMAL VILLAGE IN THE SOUTH OMO ZONE IN SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA
MNGD Special issue 02: Making Networks for Glocal DevelopmentThe SATREPS-MNGD Project implemented a demonstration of participatory road improvement with local inhabitants at the Baytsemal village in the South Omo Zone in Southern Ethiopia from November 25th, 2019 to December 9th, 2019. The activity lasted for 12 days. The first five days were for the preparation, including measuring, designing, and information sessions for the local inhabitants to build consensus on work plan, whereas the remainder for the actual implementation
Extended Series of Correlation Inequalities in Quantum Systems
A systematic derivation provides extended series of correlation inequalities
in quantum systems. Each order in truncated Taylor expansion of the spectral
representation for the Duhamel correlation function gives its lower and upper
bounds. The obtained bound on the Duhamel function and the square root
interpolation method enable us to derive a variational solution of specific
free energy in the transverse field Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figure
Melatonin enhances vertical bone augmentation in rat calvaria secluded spaces
Background: Melatonin has many roles, including bone remodeling and osseointegration of dental implants. The
topical application of melatonin facilitated bone regeneration in bone defects. We evaluated the effects of topical
application of melatonin on vertical bone augmentation in rat calvaria secluded spaces.
Material and Methods: In total, 12 male Fischer rats were used and two plastic caps were fixed in the calvarium.
One plastic cap was filled with melatonin powder and the other was left empty.
Results: Newly generated bone at bone defects and within the plastic caps was evaluated using micro-CT and
histological sections. New bone regeneration within the plastic cap was increased significantly in the melatonin
versus the control group.
Conclusions: Melatonin promoted vertical bone regeneration in rat calvaria in the secluded space within the plastic cap
Discovery of chemosynthesis-based association on the Cretaceous basal leatherback sea turtle from Japan
We report a Late Cretaceous chemosynthetic community fueled by decomposing basal leatherback sea turtle on the ocean floor in the western Pacific. The fossil association representing this community has been recovered from the matrix of a concretion containing a single carapace of Mesodermochelys sp. from Late Cretaceous outer shelf to upper slope deposit of northern Hokkaido, Japan. The carapace displays boreholes most likely performed by boring bivalves, and is associated with molluscan shells, mainly Provanna cf. nakagawensis and Thyasira tanabei. Since this association is similar to fauna already known from Late Cretaceous hydrocarbon seeps, sunken wood, and plesiosaur-falls in Hokkaido, it is suggested that all types of chemosynthesis-based communities in the Late Cretaceous of western Pacific may have belonged to the same regional pool of animals and were not yet fully differentiated into three independent types of communities as it is known today. This finding also indicates that the sulfophilic stage of the vertebrate-fall communities was supported not only by plesiosaur carcasses, which were previously reported, but also by sea turtle carcasses. It highlights the possibility of surviving vertebrate-fall communities through the end-Cretaceous mass extinction event on carcasses of sea turtles which are the only large marine vertebrates surviving this event
Examination of validity of fall risk assessment items for screening high fall risk elderly among the healthy community-dwelling Japanese population
We aimed to examine the validity of fall risk assessment items for the healthy community-dwelling elderly Japanese population. Participants were 1122 healthy elderly individuals aged 60 years and over(380malesand742females). The percentage who had experienced a fall was 15.8%. This study used fall experience and 50 fall risk assessment items representing the five risk factors(symptoms of falling, physical function, disease and physical symptom, environment, and behavior andcharacter), as we described before. The accuracy of predicting fall experience from the total score or each risk factor score was examined by discriminant analysis. The percentage correctly distinguishing the faller from the total score was 14.4%, and that from the five risk factor scores was 39.7%. This percentage, when using each risk factor score as an independent variable, was 42.5%(symptom of falling),0.6%(physical function score), 0.6%(disease and physical symptoms score), 0.0%(environment score),and 1.1%(behavior and character score), respectively. The best predictor of fall experience of the community-dwelling elderly was the ‘‘symptomoffalling’’ score. For fall risk assessment of the community-dwelling elderly, both of screening of fall risk level and assessing risk profile comprehensively is important
